Titanium and titanium alloy rods have many excellent properties such as high strength, corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and non-magnetic properties. They are widely used metal materials at present. Under normal conditions, titanium alloy can be divided into three categories, α titanium alloy, α+β titanium alloy, β titanium alloy, and α, α+β titanium alloy compared with β titanium alloy has higher strength, especially after heat treatment, the alloy can obtain strength, toughness and excellent matching fatigue performance. At the same time, because of its excellent cold working performance,β titanium alloy has been widely used in the structural parts, engine parts and load-bearing parts of the space shuttle, so in recent years,β titanium alloy in the field of aerospace development is very rapid.

At present, due to the common β-type titanium alloy strength is not high enough, and the strong plastic matching is general, can not meet the needs of the rapidly developing aviation industry. In this context, a new high strength and high plastic titanium alloy Ti6554 is developed. The alloy belongs to metastable β titanium alloy, which can be enhanced by reasonable heat treatment and has excellent strong plastic matching. Therefore, the alloy is widely used in aircraft landing gear, aircraft engine hanger, large aircraft main bearing frame, main bearing beam and heavy helicopter central wing and other key bearing components, but also can be used to make car brake pads, mobile phone screws and nuts and other components, it has a very broad application prospect, and leads the development direction of high strength and high toughness titanium alloy.

Although many researches have been done on this alloy, they are mainly on small bars, and few reports have been made on large bars. Combining with the production and manufacturing process of this alloy, a reasonable heat treatment system has been formulated to achieve a reasonable match of the strength and plasticity of this alloy, so as to lay a solid foundation for the preparation of large aircraft structural parts and heavy helicopter structural parts, and further promote the development of aviation industry.
