Tungsten - rhenium alloy in daily application

Tungsten-rhenium alloy can be used to make special incandescent light bulb and high temperature electric couple. Rhenium and tungsten, iron form alloy, very high hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance is very strong. It has a highly selective catalytic function for many chemical reactions, so it is also commonly used as a catalyst. Used primarily as a catalyst in the petroleum industry, rhenium has high electron emission properties and is widely used in radio, television and vacuum technology. Rhenium has a very high melting point and is one of the main high-temperature instrument materials. Tungsten-rhenium thermocouple does not soften at 3100℃, adding 25% rhenium in tungsten or molybdenum alloy can increase the ductility of this alloy; Rhenium is used as a high-temperature coating on rockets and missiles, and is used in spacecraft instruments and high-temperature components such as heat shields, arc discharges, and electrical contactors.

Because of its high price, it was not until 1950 that the laboratory curiosity became an important emerging metal material. At present, rhenium is widely used in various sectors of modern industry, mainly used as petroleum industry and automobile industry catalyst, petroleum reforming catalyst, electronic industry and aerospace industry with rhenium alloy, etc.
