The lack of corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy limits its application in many fields. To solve the corrosion protection problem of magnesium alloy, the internal impurity control can improve the purity, develop new corrosion resistant alloy ion implantation or laser surface modification to achieve, for large-scale industrial production, protective film and layer treatment can be used to achieve, with high economy. At present, the anti-corrosion treatment of magnesium alloy surface mainly includes chemical treatment, anodic oxidation and metal coating.

Through chemical treatment, a protective oxide film can be formed on the surface of the magnesium alloy, which can form a close combination with the magnesium alloy, prevent the external corrosive media from directly eroding the surface matrix, and improve the corrosion resistance.

Compared with chemical treatment, the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy can be greatly improved by anode oxidation. The oxide film of magnesium alloy anodized has high porosity, and the shape of the pores is irregular. If these voids are not treated, it is easy to cause the corrosion medium to directly erode the surface through the oxide film. It is necessary to reduce the void density of the oxide film in the anodic oxidation of magnesium alloy.

Electroless nickel plating is usually used for corrosion protection of magnesium alloy. After pickling and activation, electroless nickel plating can be deposited directly on the magnesium collective. However, due to the strong chemical activity of magnesium itself, a large amount of H will be precipitated in this process, which leads to the reduction of the binding force between the nickel plating and magnesium matrix. Adding zinc dipping process in the middle can obviously improve the binding force between nickel plating and magnesium matrix, and also enhance the brightness of the surface.
