It has good ductility, low vapor pressure, and can be bonded to many materials, so it is widely used as gasket and lining material for high altitude equipment and aerospace equipment. Indium foil is commonly used as contactor for ultrasonic linear blocks.

Indium is used in the atomic energy industry to make an indicator of neutrons. Many alloys of indium are often used to make control rods for nuclear reactors. Indium is an excellent material for making neutron detectors, comparable to the metal gallium.

The first industrial application of indium ingot was in the manufacture of industrial bearings, where it continues to be used today. The bearing surface is plated with indium, and the service life of the bearing is more than 5 times longer than that of the ordinary electroplated bearing. An alloy of indium ingot lubricates the rotor and is therefore also used in electric vacuum equipment. Indium tends to form a strong coating on metal surfaces and is resistant to corrosion, especially from alkaline solutions. Indium ingot coating not only has bright color, but also is easy to grind. In addition to the pure indium coating, alloys such as indium and zinc can also be used as coatings. All kinds of mirrors, mirrors, reflectors, indium-plated surface, its reflection performance is greatly enhanced, corrosion resistance, commonly used in Marine ship reflectors. In addition, bronze nets coated with indium can be used to remove mercury vapor from vacuum equipment.

Indium ingots have a low melting point and can be used to make a variety of easily soluble alloys. The indium-containing alloy with a melting point ranging from 47 to 122 is used in the manufacture of various fuses, fuses, thermostats and signal devices.

Many fusible alloys of indium ingots are used as solder. Even pure metal indium itself is easy to infiltrate the surface of glass, quartz, mica, excellent adhesion. By using indium, parts made of piezoelectric material can be solidly welded to each other. The selection of indium-containing solder material is an important step in the fabrication of multilayer integrated circuits.
