Method of enhancing wear resistance of titanium rod

The disadvantages of titanium rod are poor wear resistance, pockmark surface and other defects. At present, it can not be used in the production and manufacturing of sliding mechanical parts. Suitable for titanium surface treatment methods are Cr, Ni represented by wet coating method, thermal diffusion method, surfacing method and sputtering method, more recent and more advanced methods are CVD, PVD, PCVD surface strengthening method. 1 wet coating: mainly using Cr plating, Ni-P method, (directly on the titanium rod plating Cr is difficult, usually in the titanium rod plating Ni first, then plating Cr. Electrolysis film formation speed is fast, the thickness is several microns, (decorative coating is only 1um). It is an effective wear-resistant surface treatment method. 2. Thermal diffusion method: widely used in the hardening treatment of steel materials such as carburizing, nitriding and boration thermal diffusion process, more recently has also been used in titanium. Different from gas nitriding, ion nitriding method uses glow discharge plasma to destroy the oxide film on the surface of titanium. Therefore, the pre-nitriding treatment does not need to remove the mechanical grinding and pickling of the oxide film, and the nitriding efficiency is high. Titanium at 850 degrees, nitriding film thickness from 0.7um to 5.0um, surface hardness up to 1200-1600HV, has good film resistance. 3. Surfacing method: The use of plasma transfer arc surfacing hardening modification of titanium plate surface also has excellent wear resistance. The method is simple, the treated material does not need to be exposed at high temperature, which can prevent the decline of mechanical properties, but it must be processed twice. It is only used for processing large and thick workpieces. 4. Sputtering method: The use of high speed air jet such as ion flow, so that the drop of molten metal spray on the surface of the treated material, without vacuum, can be processed in the atmosphere, high production efficiency. But the coating is not close enough.
