Titanium alloy has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, good performance, superior corrosion resistance, light weight, and compatibility with other metals, so it is widely used in the production of various advanced aircraft structural parts and non-structural parts. However, the thermal conductivity of titanium alloy is poor, and the phenomenon of sticking knife is easy to occur when cutting, which brings some trouble to the processing of titanium alloy rod manufacturers. The possible ignition and combustion problems in the process of titanium alloy processing and their preventive measures are discussed.
Titanium metal belongs to non-spontaneous combustion metal, whether it is plate, block are not easy to spontaneous combustion, even if it is presented as a powder, it is not spontaneous combustion. However, titanium is a flammable metal, and the spark and heat generated in the process of machining may also induce the combustion of titanium plates and blocks. Once the fire starts, it's fierce, and the damage from the fire is similar to magnesium. Therefore, the combustion of titanium alloy in the process of processing and how to control it are very concerned by aircraft manufacturers and maintenance workers.
Safety measures in titanium alloy processing:
(1) Use sharp slicing, grasp the slicing rate, cutting time, and use appropriate lubricating oil cooling (mineral oil is the safest cutting coolant, do not use water-soluble Jl raw solution) to ensure that sufficient heat will not be generated during the process that can cause fire and combustion.
(2) The processing area and the surrounding area shall be kept dry and low temperature; To be equipped with fire protection facilities, leave enough, unobstructed fire space and access.
(3) Do not place flammable materials around the processing area, and remove or isolate combustible materials nearby.
(4) Wet polishing operation and selection of appropriate coolant, dry polishing when the use of dust removal equipment to remove titanium fine dust.
